Mobilize Recovery Initiatives
Have You Heard of Housed Working & Healthy?
Their mission is to help people return to independent living and be self-sufficient. The HWH model is partner based and encompasses housing, mental health services, workforce training and employment.
This supportive structure and services helps people stabilize, develop a support network, become trained, gain experience, get a job, secure independent housing and ultimately become self-sufficient.
A word about their Iron Chef competition:
We hold Iron Chef every month on the 2nd Thursday. This is a chance for our most experienced students to showcase their skills. They develop their own menu, often a meal that is personally meaningful and highlights aspects of their culture and personal story. Requirements include a complete meal plan, sauce component, five cooking techniques, three different knife cuts, and ingredients from our normal inventory.
Iron Chef is always a milestone event. There is much nervousness and trepidation beforehand, wondering if the food will come out correctly within the tight time frame. Alas, there are always problems and solutions must be improvised on the fly. And always there is a successful outcome of delicious food, huge growth in confidence, and a whole lot of happy tears!
